Plainfield Community Outreach, Inc. (PCO)is a 501 C3 nonprofit corporation whose mission statement is to educate and empower the Plainfield community.
PCO won a 5 year federal grant via the NJ Dept. of Education to provide after school services for children in 3 Plainfield area schools in grades 4-8:
Clinton Elementary: grades 4-5
Evergreen Elementary: grades 4-5
New Covenant Christian Academy: grades 4-8
A sample of our comprehensive program is described in this brochure. Enrollment and other information will be provided shortly. Please note that most programs are on a first-come, first-served basis. Programs will begin the week of Sept. 24.
All activities will be located either in your child’s school or our facility at 600 Cleveland Avenue. Parents must pick up their children no later than 6pm.
Program fees are as follows:
21st Century student: $1 per day
Sibling care: $25 per week
After School Programs
The following is a brief introduction of the programs to be provided by PCO for the 2008-09 academic year. Please note that all scheduled days may change.
1. Rigorous academic tutoring in Language Arts, Math, ELL Science, and Test Prep will be taught daily.
2. Plainfield Girlchoir will provide classical voice training for girls in grades 4-8
3. Fitness and Martial Arts.
4. Hip-hop dance, jazz dance, voice classes, and acting classes are offered by M. Power Performing Arts.
5. Plainfield artist Indira Bailey will be offering a variety of art projects, including a mural for Clinton School.
6. Grace’s Kitchen, a hot lunch feeding program for the hungry, will be offering several community service opportunities for our students and families.
7. Adult Education classes in ESL, job skills, digital photography, & computer training sessions will be offered at PCO on a rotating schedule..
8. Healthy living opportunities for adults will be offered to help them quit smoking, lose weight, and learn about ways to promote well-being via PROCEED and the YMCA.
9. Character education activities to build self-esteem and team-building.
